Dr. Simama, whose stage name is Smama, has released his new song titled, ‘Isiqalo’. He says this song is about celebrating the beautiful beginning of love and his journey through the stages of love.
“It looks at the stages of love, like, flirting, being in love and getting married. Many times, we get into relationships with a nonchalant attitude whereas it could be the beginning of eternity,” said Smama.
This Makhanda native says that this song is also suitable for those who have gone through difficulties to reach where they are in their relationships.
“There is no other song suitable to celebrate a relationship anniversary and the bond of marriage like this one. It also encourages those who are new to love,” said the medical doctor.
Smama, 45, says Isiqalo also marks his first journey as an Afrosoul singer, and he intends to grow further in this genre of music.
Smama has been on the music scene since 2009. He also co-wrote songs with the late gospel singer Lundi Tyamara, including the highly popular, Crown Gospel Award-nominated song ‘Ndicel’impilo.’ In 2012, Smama released a gospel album titled, ‘Ndiphelele.’
“I have loved singing for a long time, and I realised that it completes me as a person. I want to release music and share it with other music lovers,” he said.
Since his start in music, Smama has worked with several musicians such as Lundi, Berita, Nokwazi, Bonakele, Thulani and Putuma Tiso. He says he would like to work with Ringo Madlingozi and Brenda Mtambo.
“It would be good to do a remix of Isiqalo with DJs like Maphorisa and Kabza. I think this song would do well as an amapiano track. At the end of this song, we added a little amapiano sound,” he said.
He says that he worked with Zuko SA of the song Qhawe Lam. “His work is beautiful, and he was able to find my voice and the sound that worked for me,” he boasted.
Smama affirmed that music builds and heals. “I find it to be a way to complete my journey as a healer because it allows me to reach where I would never be able to reach as a medical doctor – the soul,” said this doctor based in Johannesburg.
Smama believes that anyone can do anything they put their mind to. He says that in order to do both of his jobs, being a doctor and a musician, he writes songs in the evening when he gets home from work. He says that writing is easy because he writes wherever when a song comes to mind.
Smama says he will release a six-song EP next year. This song (Isiqalo) is available on digital music stores, or you can click on this link https://linktr.ee/smamamusic.
