Baby born under a bridge is safe

Safe, warm, and healthy is a baby boy who was borne by its mother under a bridge in North End, Gqeberha.

On a cold, rainy Sunday afternoon, a woman was found alone, giving birth under a bridge by a man walking by. The man called the police who were patrolling the area.

According to a report from Colonel Priscilla Naidu, Mount Road police after two o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, they found this woman giving birth under the bridge wrapped in a blanket.

Naidu says the baby weighing 2,6 kg was already outside, but the umbilical cord was still wrapped around the baby’s neck.

An ambulance was called, and it quickly arrived, helping the mother and her baby.

Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Vuyisile Ncata, applauded the good work done by the Mount Road police.
