Chiefs asking for support in final league game, not violence!

After Kaizer Chiefs signed new players, there was optimism for a better season at the start of the season. The wonderful work that Arthur Zwane accomplished after Gavin Hunt was sacked last season gave rise to hope. Although it has been a challenging journey that comes to an end on Saturday, Zwane has tried to revitalise the squad utilising young and new players that management has acquired.

Despite having the chance to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns, who once again won the league, Chiefs wasted the opportunity by losing games that they should have easily won. Chiefs had a chance to win the Nedbank Cup and finish second in the DStv Premiership at the end of April, but they too wasted those opportunities.

Last week, when Chiefs were defeated by SuperSport United, Zwane was escorted from the pitch by police as the enraged supporters wanted to attack him. An eight-year trophy drought, which had never occurred in the history of Chiefs since their inception, served as fuel for the fans’ rage.

Despite the event that occurred at Royal Bafokeng last week, it appears that the coach is still working with them. In five straight games, Chiefs have lost four times. However, given that the current situation does not offer much optimism for things to go better, it is possible that Chiefs will come up with another strategy after the season is over. According to Chiefs spokesperson Vina Maphosa, the coach was unharmed by the supporters.

“After the game, the coach sustained an injury. He hurt his eye, but doctors were able to treat it. He was not hit by the fans; he was injured by the police shield that was trying to protect him,” Maposa stated earlier this week on Radio 2000.

“The coach is recovering well and will be present for the upcoming match. We are people of peace and quiet, so what the supporters did makes us ashamed. We have no plans to remove the coach. We will not make a choice based on fan outrage. The arrival and departure of players will take place after the season. Currently, Zwane is the Chiefs coach,” Maphosa noted.

Amakhosi will play Cape Town City in the last league game, and if they lose at the FNB Stadium, they risk falling out of fourth place. The team management has requested the supporters to act appropriately and to back the players and coach fully.
