Morgan Mammila is under fire after Chippa United failed to win seven straight games. This occurred despite the fact that Mammila assisted Chippa in winning four consecutive games after taking over the coaching position previously held by Daine Klate, who did not perform well.
Morgan is under pressure because he has publicly stated that he is a better coach than coaches who have been coaching for a long time and have studied more than him. Chippa United returned to Gqeberha last weekend with a point after a one-goal draw with Royal AM.
There will be no rest because Chippa will face another difficult team, Maritzburg United, in the DStv Premiership match on Sunday after 3pm at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha.
Chippa must fight for three points in the next games in order to enter the Top 8 and avoid relegation, which is always hovering over it.
Even though Chippa United is playing well, they are unable to score enough goals to win games. Siviwe Mpengesi has already rehired Kurt Lentjies as an assistant. It’s possible that this is an attempt to lighten Mammila’s load by giving him someone who fought tooth and nail last season.
Although Maritzburg United has had issues, things are looking up after bringing back Fadlu Davids, who left for Orlando Pirates years ago. When Davids joined the Team of Choice, he made a difference. After winning three games in a row, all of the teams that will face them know that it will be difficult to compete with them. Chippa United must fight to win at home because there is no other place where they can make changes other than their own stadium.
Lentjies’ presence may make a difference because he has dealt with adversity after saving Chippa United last season. He made it clear that he will not be Klate’s assistant, who was appointed to coach Chippa United at the start of the season after performing well in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge.
