There have been numerous rumours about gold SASSA cards, with some speculating that the gold cards are being replaced. What didn’t help these rumours were glitches in the SASSA system, which prevented beneficiaries from receiving their social grants on time. SASSA has once again dispelled rumours that the card would expire in April.
The SASSA Spokesperson in Mpumalanga, Senzeni Ngubeni said, “Beneficiaries must not panic or succumb to the hijacking by scammers and circulating fake news that the card will expire in April 2023.”
“SASSA is conveying a correct message that the payment gold card is still authentic and can be used either in Postbank, ATMs, and merchants. Beneficiaries are encouraged also to provide their private bank accounts to SASSA as another option of safe easy payment,” said Ngubeni.
SASSA provides various social grants to over 16 million South Africans. SASSA has been in operation since 2006, with the goal of providing financial assistance to citizens who are victims of poverty and unemployment.
SASSA confirmed that any changes will be communicated in due course. Fraudsters who pose as SASSA officials and target the elderly and people with disabilities in their communities must be reported immediately to the local SAPS.
