Fundile Gade, the Eastern Cape’s Minister of Education, said that the province did what it should have done and intervened where it should have intervened.
The minister said this while encouraging the entire province as the end-of-year exams for matriculants began this week on Monday.
The students began with an English paper, and there were no issues with copying or the distribution of answer sheets prior to the exam.
“We did what we could, travelling throughout the province and intervening where necessary. We made mistakes wherever we made them. Where we could, we did well,” said Gade.
In South Africa, over 794,000 students are taking these exams, with 6800 schools.
Angie Motshekga, Minister of Basic Education, praised the class of 2022 for their perseverance and dedication.
Motshekga stated that the impact of Covid-19 has had an impact on the class of 2022. She urged the community to help these students until they finished their exams in the first week of December.
There are 98,756 matriculants and 18,856 part-time students in the Eastern Cape.
The Eastern Cape matric results in 2021 have improved by 73% since 2020, when they were 68.1%.
Students were writing History today. They will write Mathematics Paper 1 tomorrow, Friday, November 4.
