The new year will begin on a high note, as Mzansi Magic will premiere a new telenovela, Gqeberha: The Empire, on January 16, 2023. It is bound to be a fan favourite with its impressive cast and what promises to be gripping storylines.
The telenovela will take the place of The Queen, which will end after its seventh season. Zikhona Sodlaka, Zandile Msutwana, and Mbulelo Grootboom star in Gqeberha: The Empire, the first Mzansi Magic telenovela shot entirely in the Eastern Cape.
Gqeberha: The Empire is set in Gqeberha and centred on the polygamous marriage of Luzuko Mxenge (Grootboom), a successful businessman with three very different wives: Bulelwa (Sodlaka), Zimkhita (Msutwana), and Nozuko (Bikitsha). The series revolves around a man who appears to have it all: family, love, money, power, glory, and respect, according to the telenovela synopsis.
The Boardwalk Conference Centre in Gqeberha hosted the launch of Gqeberha: The Empire. In a statement, the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts, and Culture stated that they are honoured to be associated with the drama series.
