Gwambi and Mammila given the responsibility of carrying Chippa United

Siviwe Mpengesi says he is not looking for a coach at the moment. He said this after his team got their second win last week. After Chippa United were beaten in the last minute by Mamelodi Sundowns in the match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium last week, Mpengesi removed Daine Klate as coach.

Although Chippa troubled Sundowns almost the entire game, the chairman of the team says that he never liked the way they played. “In the match we played against Sundowns, it was the only team playing on the field. That is not how we play. You cannot depend on the mistakes made by the team you are playing against; the team must create opportunities to win the game,” said Mpengesi recently.

His team returned to KwaZulu-Natal with their tails wagging after beating AmaZulu by two goals to one in the DStv Premiership match. It was a surprise for Chippa who did not start the new season well. Success came with the interim head coach, Siyabulela Gwambi and his assistant, Morgan Mammila. Mpengesi said that he will not hire a new person, Gwambi and Mammila will pull the strings at Chippa United. “If it is not broken, why fix it?” said Mpengesi who has made a name for himself in the Premier Soccer League as the club owner who sacks coaches in an unprecedented manner.

He confirmed that Klate was not fired, instead he will be given another job. “Klate was not fired. We will meet him and see where he will be working. If he does not want to do it in Diski Challenge, there are many places he can work in,”said Mpengesi.

After the good work they did in Durban, Chippa will fight for three more points when they meet Marumo Gallants in the match at 3 o’clock on Saturday, at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. Although the Gallants are struggling to win games, they are not easy to beat. It is motivated after the draw against Chiefs last week.
