His hands put food on the table

Zolisile Njara (42) from N.U 1 in Mdantsane who has a disability in his legs, started seeing the power of his hands this year.

Njara, despite being born without a disability, says that he has seen in these few months how remarkable his work is after the public reception. People are buying and loving the things that he makes with his own hands.

He says that he was surprised by the support from the community which he did not expect when he started creating these wooden pieces.

This man collects wood and then splits it to make many things like walking sticks, smoking pipes, chairs, doors, spears, swords, knives, tables and many others.

Njara does anything made of wood even though he never went to school for it.

“I did not learn this at school, it is a natural skill for me. I do not go to sleep with an empty stomach doing this job I started because I am able to buy what I need. I started slowly, one morning I made a smoking pipe without anyone teaching me,” said Njarha.

Njara is asking for support from the government and anyone who can help him with tools such as machines as he only uses a hammer and nails. He says his work would be even better if he could get these machines to help him.

He says the money he earns from doing this is what allows him to feed his family.
