Gavin Hunt stated a few weeks ago that SuperSport United will try to find new players because relying on two players is risky.
The players are working hard at a camp in Durban, preparing for the return of the DStv Premiership games as the World Cup in Qatar comes to an end.
Hunt rejoined the Pretoria side ahead of the start of the current season after Kaitano Tembo was fired by SuperSport United due to poor results. It was not performing well at the start of the season, even under Hunt, but things have changed now, and SuperSport is one of the leading teams in the DStv Premiership.
He did so after attempting to assemble a team comprised of both young and experienced players, such as Thulani Hlatshwayo, who played a key role in the Pretoria side following his dramatic departure from Orlando Pirates last season.
Hlatshwayo, who once worked with Hunt at the bankrupt Bidvest Wits, is back. He joined the team following the departure of players such as Ronwen Williams and Teboho Mokoena to Mamelodi Sundowns.
According to the coach, the contributions of players such as Bradley Grobler and Thamsanqa Gabuza are significant, but relying on them alone is risky, which is why he hopes to find players who will strengthen his team soon.
“We’re looking for new players. Bradley and Gabuza carried us through the first half of the season, but we lack players who can take their places. Some may argue that there are players, but we need players in specific positions on our team,” Hunt, who coached Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa United two years ago, made the statement.
According to sources, SuperSport United is attempting to sign Terrence Dzvukamanja from Pirates and Gift Motupa from Sundowns. Both have previously worked with Hunt and are currently not getting game time in their current teams.
“We need to find players who fit our style of play,” Hunt said.
Amatsatsantsa will meet Marumo Gallants in Pretoria on December 30.
