One of the top students in the class of 2022, Sibulele Natuse is now one step closer to realizing her dream of becoming a doctor. This Lumko High School alumna, who is from Duncan Village, passed with seven distinctions and an overall grade average of 90%. At the moment, she is a medical student at the University of Cape Town.

Natuse says that being a doctor has always been her goal. “I have always wanted to be a doctor since the very first grade. I want to serve my community, my people.

“I believe that I have the qualities such as empathy, listening and problem-solving skills, etc. And also, the fact that I will not have to be an unemployed graduate as there is a demand for doctors in the country,” said Natuse.

This aspiring doctor described her time in high school as the most difficult of her life. The workload, she claimed, was one of her challenges that year, but she had to come up with different coping mechanisms. “When exams were approaching, I would deactivate all my social media accounts because social media is one of the reasons most learners procrastinate,” she said.

She gives credit for her success to her teachers, family, friends, and educational initiatives like JENN and EMSS. In the foreseeable future, she sees herself running a practice.

She encourages the class of 2023 to put forth more effort. “Work hard today, you will yield the best results tomorrow. Believe that you are capable. Remember that it is better to aim high and miss than to aim low and catch,” she advised.
