I will not build Polokwane City alone, says Mogaladi

Teams like Cape Town Spurs and Casric Stars had a chance to win the Motsepe Foundation Championship in recent weeks, but things changed at the very last moment. Polokwane City are the new champions after thrashing Pretoria Callies in the game at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium with an onslaught of four goals.

Polokwane’s rise was sparked by Cape Town Spurs and Casric Stars, who failed to earn all possible points in their previous matches. With their three points, Polokwane brought their total to 57, matching Spurs. However, the Limpopo team outscored the Cape Town team in goal difference.

Due to the fact that Limpopo has teams that consistently compete in the DStv Premiership, the province makes a substantial contribution to South African top-flight football. Recent relegations, however, have involved Limpopo teams like Tshakhuma Tsha FC, Black Leopards, and Baroka FC.

Lack of funding is one of the factors contributing to the teams’ demise. Fortunately, Polokwane City’s promotion back to the top division will keep football fans in Limpopo interested in the sport. Johnny Mogaladi, the team’s chairman, has expressed his immense pride at the superb work his team completed over the weekend but is requesting support. “We need the people of Limpopo’s support,” Mogaladi said after the game.

“As we work to build a team, we need everyone’s help. I won’t be able to build Polokwane City alone, so we need assistance. Municipalities assist KwaZulu-Natal teams. That is not provided for us, and non-Limpopo teams are given access to the stadiums. What I want to tell the people is that we don’t want to be a team that fluctuates,” stated Polokwane City’s chairman.

This weekend marks the conclusion of the DStv Premiership season, and Cape Town Spurs and Casric Stars will be ready to face off against the team that finishes the season in fifteenth place. Marumo Gallants, Chippa United, and Maritzburg United are the three teams that face the possibility of being relegated or participating in the PSL playoffs because they entered the final league games with identical point totals.
