Lehlohonolo Seema was highly complimentary of the players at Chippa United after they narrowly avoided relegation during the last moments of the DStv Premiership season, which finished last week.

After Chippa United and Golden Arrows tied in the DStv Premiership game at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, the coach made this statement. Maritzburg United, who had one point more than Chippa after their previous match against Mamelodi Sundowns earlier that week, put pressure on Seema’s team going into the encounter.

Chippa United moved up to 14th place with one point from the most recent game. The teams from the Motsepe Foundation Championship will play Maritzburg in the playoffs.

Marumo Gallants, unfortunately, were relegated after losing to Swallows FC, a team that had previously struggled mightily the previous season and had now advanced to the Top 8. After the last game, Seema said that Chippa’s survival was an important thing for the people of the Eastern Cape.

After struggling a lot under Morgan Mammila, who left for Swallows after 15 games, Siviwe Mpengesi’s team found itself in trouble. “Today is a special day for the people of the Eastern Cape and Chippa United fans. We praise God because we would not have survived relegation without him,” Seema said after the game in Gqeberha. “We realised that we needed one goal after the Maritzburg and Sundowns game. Prior to the match, we told our players that we should not lose.

“We said we should not lose if we don’t win the game because we told ourselves we were going to the playoffs. I’d want to thank and commend the players for their efforts in saving the team. When I arrived, they appeared to be going through difficult times, and it was going to be difficult to get away from stressful games,” said Seema, who left Chippa United after assisting them.

Kurt Lentjies was replaced at the beginning of the season, which ended last week, by Daine Klate, a coach for the DStv Diski Challenge, despite the fact that Lentjies had saved Chippa from trouble.

There are reports that he wants to bring back Mammila, who left Chippa in trouble before switching over to Swallows, where Musa Nyatama was assisting.

Since some of the loaned players have left and others have been acquired by other teams, Chippa is anticipated to hunt for additional players.
