Life imprisonment for a man who killed his girlfriend in KWT

The High Court of South Africa, which was held in Makhanda, sentenced Lunga Lennox Nqayi (46) to life and five years, after being found guilty of murdering his girlfriend, businesswoman, Bridget Nokwanda Mguga-Patocka last year.

According to a report from the National Prosecuting Authority, Nqayi was living with Mguga-Patocka in Ginsberg in King William’s Town.

On the night of October 3, 2021, Nqayi and her girlfriend had an argument, Nqayi started beating Mguga-Patocka and that is when the victim jumped out of the window trying to save her life. However, Nqayi followed Mguga-Patocka, when he grabbed her, he continued to beat her in the street, and a neighbour intervened. The neighbour asked the cause of their fight trying to end the dispute, Nqayi told the neighbour that the victim was having an affair with another man.

The report goes on to say that he continued to beat her even when the neighbour was there.

The neighbour then saw the victim’s car being driven by Nqayi, and the victim was crying and tried to jump out of the car, but Nqayi took her away and drove away.

The spokesperson of the NPA in the Eastern Cape, Luxolo Tyali, said that the report says that Nqayi woke up in the morning and took the victim to the hospital where he lied and said that she had fallen. He lied and said she was trying to throw herself out of the window on purpose and had difficulty breathing afterwards.

It was apparent that the victim had already died before reaching the hospital as she died on the way.

During the trial, Nqayi revealed that he is not guilty, but Advocate Tanduxolo Soga presented the court with concrete evidence.

The Director of Public Prosecutions in the Eastern Cape, Barry Madolo, applauded the prosecutors and the officers who investigated the case.
