Melikhaya May won an award at the National Amaciko Ngoma Awards for the first song on his album, Bayethe.
May won the award for Best Worship Song for this song from his debut album, Ebekhon’ uThixo.
“It feels great! It’s a great feeling to hear your name called out, and it’s even better to win,” the gospel singer told I’solezwe lesiXhosa.
May’s album was released in May of 2019.
“I have only released this album, and it’s doing well in the market,” May explained.
His album was played on several radio stations such as Mhlobo Wenene, Vukani Community Radio, Lukhanji, Zibonele and Tygerburg.
May has previously been recognised for this album, having won Song of the Year at the Eastern Cape Music Awards (ECMAs).
His album contains 12 songs, and he has stated that his next album will be released in the first quarter of 2023.
“God is glorified when you listen to songs like Bayethe, Dwala Elimiyo and Ngathola. When you listen to songs like Uthatha ezaleni, Ebekhon’ uThixo, and Oh Msindisi, you can feel hope.
“What I can tell you is that it is soothing, and fans will comment on it based on how they heard it,” said the Cala native who grew up in Cacadu.
