According to police, driving under the influence of alcohol may have been the primary cause of the deaths of two mortuary workers in a car accident on the R397 road.

The two men were driving a hearse between Burgersdorp and Steynsburg when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

According to Unathi Binqose, the Eastern Cape Department of Transport spokesperson, three men were inside the van, one of whom is believed to have asked for a ride and was not seriously injured.

Binqose stated that the driver lost control while passing another vehicle. Both mortuary workers died on the way to the hospital.

According to the report, alcohol consumption in the vehicle may have played a role in the accident.
