The Butterworth High School pupils and teachers were beaming as MultiChoice presented them with a multipurpose field.

The modern sports field was officially presented to the school by senior MultiChoice officials led by Tumi Masekela, Nonceba Kontsiwe, the MEC for Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture in the Eastern Cape, as well as teachers and principals from Butterworth schools. Football, netball, and hockey will all be played on the new field.

Tumi, who spoke at the event, stated that MultiChoice prioritizes the development of local communities. “We want all children to have opportunities in life,” Tumi remarked.

“We want those opportunities to be here in the villages; they don’t have to be in Johannesburg. MultiChoice is prepared to collaborate with people to develop strategies for bolstering the growth of sport.

“This is a gift from MultiChoice. Please look after it and keep it safe. We have been informed that this field will host new sports being played in Butterworth. It’s advantageous now because the children will receive training in a good field. We have built fields in schools so that children can play on them. This is a place where the future’s brightest players and leaders will emerge,” stated Tumi.

Lona Goniwe, the pupil and netball team leader, gratefully accepted the field and thanked MultiChoice. “We are grateful for what MultiChoice has done for us since it will help our school restore its dignity. We have faith that the field of play they have prepared for us will yield excellent athletes. Our teachers’ dedication to sports gives us hope that we will develop best players who will represent us across the country,” Goniwe stated.

The Minister also praised MultiChoice for their assistance and urged the people of Butterworth to make good use of and preserve the field that had been provided to them.
