Zweli is a Mafikeng-based firefighter on a mission to Hillside to learn the truth about his biological father.

Zweli is defined as a confident man with a good spirit to those around him. Zweli’s story will reveal secrets and confusion.

This new character in 7de Laan is portrayed by Chumani Pan, who was born in Mooiplaas in East London, Eastern Cape.

In the first and second seasons of the series Ashes to Ashes, Pan portrayed Monwabisi.

He is also well known for the TV programs Projek Dina on kykNET, Wounds on 1Magic, Montana and Generations on SABC1, and The River.

Speaking to I’solezwe lesiXhosa about his new role, Pan says he considers himself fortunate to have been cast in the Afrikaans soapie because it is a language he is familiar with.

“I was fortunate to grow up in Mitchell’s Plain, where I learned the Afrikaans language.

“Although I am not completely proficient in Afrikaans, I can communicate in it. However, this role on 7de Laan they were not looking for an Afrikaans speaker; instead, they were looking for Zweli. Speaking Afrikaans is a plus,” Pan added, noting that this was his fourth Afrikaans acting role.

He went on to say that he thinks people who produce Afrikaans television programs love him.

“It’s exciting to be in such a big and popular show. I hope that seeing their own in this show will inspire people in the Eastern Cape to pursue their dreams,” he said.
