The SPAR Proteas are kicking off their preparations for the Netball World Cup in South Africa this year with a strong tournament. The national netball team begins the year with a difficult tournament featuring the most talented netball countries; England, Australia, and New Zealand.
The quad series will kick off on January 21 – 25 at the Cape Town International Conventional Centre. The SPAR Proteas coach, Noma Plummer, has announced the names of the players who will play.
Since Monday of this week, all of the players have been in camp in Stellenbosch. “The test matches we played against Zimbabwe and Scotland were extremely beneficial because we now know which players deserve to be called up to the national team for the Quad Series.
“We have assembled a strong team that we hope will be able to compete with the world’s best. There is still much to do before the World Cup,” Plummer stated. The President of Netball South Africa, Cecilia Molokwane, has praised the national team as the SPAR Proteas prepare for the big tournament in Cape Town.
“We are the governing body of netball in South Africa, and we are proud of the work done by our team last year. Our players work hard and play well together.
“I am confident that the players will not let our country down in the World Cup,” Molokwane said. Karla Pretorious, a Proteas forward, has returned to the national team after a year away.
South Africa will play New Zealand in the Quad Series’ opening match. Then there’s the match between Australia and England in Cape Town on the same day. SuperSport Variety 4 (DStv Channel 209) will broadcast all matches live.
