The coach of Mamelodi Sundowns, Rulani Mokwena, cannot keep his mouth shut about the new signing he describes as having a very bright future. The player’s name is Abubeker Nasir, a footballer from Ethiopia.
Nasir, 22, was a topic before he arrived in South Africa because of the excellent work he did for the national team. In the two games he played in the DStv Premiership, Nasir left many people talking after showcasing his skills. Last week, Mamelodi Sundowns gave Kaizer Chiefs a beating when they won with four goals to zero in a thrilling DStv Premiership match at Loftus Stadium.
The goals Sundowns won by were scored by senior striker Peter Shalulile (two), Gaston Sirino, the fourth goal was scored by Nasir in the last minutes of the game. He gave the Chiefs players a good dribble before hitting the back of the net for the first time in South Africa. “He has a very good future because he is surrounded by top quality players at Sundowns,” Mokwena said after the match.
Sundowns bought him at the beginning of this year, but they loaned him to Ethiopia Coffee because they wanted him to be fit. Nasir played his first game in the match where Sundowns were beaten 1-0 by TS Galaxy.
“He came to a high-quality team. This will help him improve his game especially when attacking. He could be something we have never seen,” said Mokwena. But at the same time, he asked his team’s fans to give him a chance so that he could settle into Sundowns.
Mokwena also said that they are looking for someone to teach Nasir English to make it easier to work with coaches and other players. “I want to ask people to be patient. I do not want there to be too much noise about him because he still has a lot of work to do to be a complete player. The first thing we need to deal with is how we talk to him. We got someone to interpret so that he can hear what we are saying when we practice. There is more that Nasir will show us in the upcoming games,” said Mokwena.
Downs are now preparing to meet Sekhukhune United in the game this Saturday afternoon.
