As the year comes to a close and the first half of the season concludes, the managers of the various teams will start looking for new players as the new year begins.
Mamelodi Sundowns is one of the teams said to be spending money. According to media reports, Sundowns want to sign Khanyisa Mayo, a key player for Cape Town City.
According to a Phakaathi report, Sundowns has set aside an estimated R15 million for the Cape Town City player.
Mayo is the son of veteran footballer Patric Mayo, who played for Mthatha Bush Bucks, SuperSport United, Kaizer Chiefs, and the national team. It’s not surprising that Mayo is being recruited because he’s performing so well and scoring so many goals.
Nothing has been finalised, but Sundowns can get him from Cape Town City because the two teams freely trade players. John Comitis, City’s chairman, is known for selling players when the money is right.
According to reports, Rulani Mokwena’s team is looking for Mayo to replace Peter Shalulile, who is expected to leave the Chloorkop team at the start of next year.
Shalulile had not played for a while prior to the suspension of DStv Premiership matches due to the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He was said to be injured, but there are also rumours that he wishes to leave Sundowns.
Cape Town City, on the other hand, announced the signing of Lorenzo Gordinho. He will stay at City after signing a three-year contract. Gordinho had previously played for teams such as Kaizer Chiefs, where he had been since the academy, and Bidvest Wits, which went bankrupt.
