Tapelo Xoki wants Mamelodi Sundowns’ dominance to end

Orlando Pirates defender, Tapelo Xoki, is determined to help his team beat Mamelodi Sundowns who have won the DStv Premiership trophy five times in a row. Xoki arrived at Pirates before the start of the season from Amazulu where he excelled in previous seasons. The Buccaneers took him in this season because they intend to build a strong team that will make their fans happy. Although they have won the MTN8 trophy under Josef Zinnbauer, they have had a dry spell that fans are not happy with.

“The team has achieved a lot before my arrival. I cannot say that I will do something that has not been done,” said Xoki recently. “I wish to win the Champions League trophy. I wish to be part of the squad who makes history for Pirates and who will always be remembered. People are always talking about the players of ‘95 because they came back with the CAF Champions League trophy,” said Xoki. Pirates failed to win the CAF Confederation Cup last season, Xoki says the team now has players who are going to change things.

“In two years, we can win the Champions League trophy. We did not qualify for it this season, but we have a chance to fix that and get back into the Champions League next season. I want to be among the players who made history. We need to win the DStv Premiership trophy and end Sundowns’ dominance. If we can do that, it would be a big thing,” said Xoki who has played in five games this season. After being beaten by Maritzburg United 1-0 in the previous game, Bucs will unleash their anger on TS Galaxy in Saturday’s game. Success will help them close the gap opened by the top teams in the DStv Premiership.
