The sky is the limit for Mbulelo

The Queen’s new actor, Mbulelo Katise, feels like he has not left the public eye as he has returned to television after a long break. Katise plays the role of Duma Jama on this show which is shown on Mzansi Magic every weekday night.

“It is like I never went anywhere. I feel like I was on vacation,” said Katise talking to I’solezwe lesiXhosa.

The last time Katise was on our screens, he played as Sicelo Ngema on Scandal!

However, Katise’s name has been in embroiled in controversy following reports of his arrest together with other suspects after a human trafficking scandal where he was found in a brothel.

“I was in the wrong place, at the wrong time,” he said.

He said this disturbed him mentally and emotionally. “I noticed how judgmental people were. I was young at the time. This made me grow up and learn how people think,” said the Daveyton native situated east of Johannesburg.

He said his implication in the case made him doubt himself and wonder if he was guilty or not.

Katise said this came at a time when he was planning to take a break to go back to school. He recently graduated with a Diploma in Film and Television Directing from the University of Tshwane.

He said that although it has been a while since he was portraying someone onscreen, it was not difficult to play Duma and now he is older than before.

“Now I want to grow in terms of playing with emotions [such as anger] and speaking different languages,” said the actor who also starred on Generations.

He revealed that he would like to star in The River and Netflix series. He said acting in a Ferguson production has always been a dream and working with veterans like Connie Ferguson is an honour for him.

Apart from producing and writing films, Katise is also a musician who goes by the name McCloud. His seven-song album The Warm Up is available on digital music stores.
