Even if his squad returned from the game in Polokwane dissatisfied, Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane feels there is still a chance to play in the CAF Champions League. In the DStv Premiership last weekend at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, Amakhosi were defeated by Sekhukhune United by a single goal. This happened following a recent game that finished in a one-goal stalemate in which Amakhosi failed to collect the necessary points against Marumo Gallants.
Chief’s prospects of qualifying for the CAF Champions, which is contested by three teams vying for third place in the DStv Premiership, have decreased as a result of their failure in the last two games. Due to the victories by SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates, Zwane’s team will face a difficult task. Even though Chiefs lost their most recent game, Zwane claims he is not prepared to give up because anything can happen in football in the upcoming DStv Premiership games.
“I am not someone who gives up easy. We know in football that anything can happen in the remaining games,” said Zwane, who was frustrated after being defeated by Sekhukhune United for the second time this season.
“I am very disappointed. We ought to have performed considerably better than we did. But what happened did happen. We don’t know what will happen in the upcoming games because some teams are battling to finish the season in strong positions on the standings, while others are battling to avoid being relegated,” added Zwane.
Thursday’s DStv Premiership encounter between Amakhosi and Chippa United will take place at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, where Amakhosi will want to do better. Zwane’s team is seeking for a way to get retribution after losing to Chippa United 2-1 last time out. The match between these two teams must have a winner because both are in trouble.
Amakhosi is still vying for second place to qualify for the Champions League, while Chippa is battling to stay in the league. Despite the fact that Mpengesi’s side is having trouble, Chiefs have not historically defeated them in significant games. They are in danger of being relegated, thus they must get the three points.
