The newly elected women who came into power this past weekend after the Amathole region had its fourth election at the ICC in East London, which lasted for two days, were praised by the women of the governing party in the Eastern Cape, the ANC Women’s League.

Thembalam Sheila Xego, a native of Thafeni village in Tyekelebende in Dutywa, was elected as the Amathole Region Chairperson in the ANC, while Nombuyekezo Ncethezo was elected as the Secretary.

Gift Ngqondi, an ANC member from the Eastern Cape, asserts that the organisation would keep working to fill leadership posts with women. This is also a proof that the ANC is serious about equality as women gain power.

“We are urging the candidates to work hard and dedicate themselves to joining the organisation in this area and supporting the Women’s League and the Young Women’s Desk,” Ngqondi added.

According to Ngqondi, everyone who was elected was applauded in the hopes that they would make a significant contribution in the upcoming national elections. Additionally, they must exhibit the necessary management abilities for the organisation to grow.

This election went off without a hitch since the rules were strictly adhered to. The five elected are listed below:

1. Chairperson – Cde Thembalam Sheila Xego.

2. Deputy Chairperson – Cde Anele Ntsangani.

3. Secretary – Cde Nombuyekezo Ncethezo.
