In less than a year, the world will descend on South Africa, which will host the Netball World Cup. Netball South Africa, the country’s governing body of netball, has partnered with World Netball in preparation for the world’s largest netball tournament; earlier this week, they received support from Telkom and SPAR, the country’s two largest netball sponsors.
From July 28 to August 6, the Netball World Cup 2023 games will be held in Cape Town, Western Cape. Cecilia Molokwane, President of Netball SA, welcomed Telkom and SPAR’s sponsorship.
“Netball is the most popular sport for ladies in South Africa. It is played everywhere, from villages to cities. We welcome the two companies’ support for the Netball World Cup with great joy,” Molokwane said at the start of the week.
The Netball World Cup is being held in Africa for the first time. When the nations of the world play on their court, South Africa must prove itself. Netball SA will look to sign Norma Plummer as the season approaches, following a poor performance under Dorette Badenhorst.
SPAR has a long history of commitment to netball and is determined to play an active role. “For over two decades, we have supported netball and the Proteas. SPAR is proud to support the Proteas initiative, which provides opportunities for South African women. We are delighted to be a World Cup sponsor,” Max Oliva, CEO of SPAR South Africa, stated.
Telkom, which sponsors the Telkom Netball League, said, “We have seen the development since the day we joined Netball SA, and we are delighted to be a part of the upcoming World Cup.”
Last week, the Proteas reclaimed their dignity by winning the SPAR Diamond Challenge trophy.
